Beginnings and Loose Ends

This blog is going to be my 4+ year experiment in the path to becoming a video game developer. The point of this experiment is, first of all, to gauge my ability to sufficiently multitask several aspects of my life as a video game lover, as an industry follower and as an aspiring creator of games. The second point is to further my own abilities in what is necessary to be a game developer as well as what I think to be necessary to a game developer, including creative aspects of the processes like writing.

My experiment will include editorials and essays on the life of a game developer, gaming news, gamer culture, the life of an aspiring game developer, and video game ideas. All the while maintaining regular posts and going to school, I'll continue my favorite hobby of reading up on gaming news, including new game announcements, game industry news, game politics news and game community, and I'll post all of these news items on another blog which will be found on the sidebar here (once I figure out how to do that..). Maintaining a creative life is a practice I think is important to my dream job. I will still maintain my other blog which contains writing projects and more personal journal entries. I'll further my creative aspirations with musical projects and video projects.

My name is Todd D and I am a student of the Game Design and Development degree at UCCS. It's been one of my life's dreams to create my favorite medium of entertainment -- Video games. I make it a point to mention it's only one of my dreams-- My hobbies have always been all over the place. Trying to decide on what to study in college was such a hassle-- I wanted to study computer science, engineering, robotics, music, performing arts, creative writing, journalism, culinary arts and practically everything in between.

Yes, the Jack of All Trades is the Master of None. However, I believe that as a game developer, I can put a great number of my interests in use. It's probably not a practical ambition to be the "Miyazaki" of the video game world, but all of those elements, all of those processes in creating a video game can certainly be touched on by one person.

The life of a Wannabe Game Developer is that of a dreamer.

Welcome.

-PS. This post was written in an incredibly rushed manner and will be re-written soon.
